I Speak Language Access Forum

On Tuesday, October 27, the Latino Apostolate along with REACH Nola and other collaborators, hosted the second “I Speak” Language Access Forum at Esperanza charter school, which was attended by more than 45 people. We discussed the need for language assistance in health and human service settings, and informed the community members about their rights to have an interpreter provided while receiving federally-funded services. We also discussed individuals’ specific experiences in smaller focus groups, collecting information about barriers to language access. All attendees received an “I speak” card.

NOLA Vecinos Festival

The Latino Apostolate participated in the NOLA Vecinos festival (which included health services, music, and an all-day soccer match) last Sunday, October 25. Two soccer teams from the group entered, one of them taking 2nd place in the tournament.
