Program Description

Components of Anna’s Arts for Kids include:

(1) Academic Enrichment

  • Tutoring – Weekly after-school program providing homework assistance, academic drills, reading comprehension, and language development.
  • LEAP Preparation – Weekly after-school activities which prepare students to master the state-mandated LEAP test.

Goals are to help youth improve their academic performance, self-confidence, and sense of empowerment.

(2) Arts & Culture

  • Music
  • Ballet Folklorico (Nicaraguan Folk Dance)
  • Visual Arts
  • Peace Keeper Karate

Program goals: To provide initial exposure to the arts, to open avenues to other cultures through the arts, and to allow for cognitive skill development. And through the martial arts component, we strive to develop children’s character development, confidence, and respect for self and others.

(3) Community Service

  • Monthly volunteer activity (one Saturday per month) in the Greater New Orleans area.

Program goal: Teach youth the importance of giving back through service and to contribute to the re-building of their city and community.

(4) Environmental Awareness

  • Wetlands Protection
  • Urban Farming
  • Nutrition and Culinary Arts

Program goal is to teach youth to respect nature and develop an understanding of man’s role in protecting the environment. This will be coupled with a healthy living component introducing vegetables and vegetarian meals into the mix.
